Final Race of 2014 – MotoE Silverstone

Race day dawned cold and fresh with no sign of the rain we started the day with on Saturday this was relief as the budget for this last race day of the season had completely run out and Chris had slicks fitted so no matter what came slicks would be what he’d be using…
Having said that our worries weren’t as bad as they could have been as Fozzy already sampled the wet track capabilities of the Continental racing slicks in the Saturday practice session and they’re totally confidence inspiring
Fozzy had used the Race Attack treaded tyres previously in the wet with spectacular results so we were that the slicks would give him a similar performance and we were not to be disappointed! The more modest speeds of the electric bikes make bringing tyres up to temperature a challenge but the predictable nature and outright grip of the Conti’s is just phenomenal…
Fozzy “I’m genuinely bowled over by these tyres!”

For the final race of the day there were some battles heating up with some competitors missing and some wrestling with bike issues, in the end everyone managed to get out onto track and performance levels had been tuned and optimised so everyone was getting closer in terms of performance. The championship leader Ho Chi Fung (all Asia Superbike champion) was using his ‘B’ bike and all the front running bikes were using versions of Agni’s motors

Fozzy “I made a good start and got away with the leading bikes from ARC and Zongchen, both bikes were clearly conserving their batteries as they were lapping much closer to me than I had seen all weekend, I’d been given the confidence by Cedric Lynch, the motor designer and Agni engineer that the bike he’d prepared for me had enough battery and motor to last the entire race at my qualifying pace so I used this opportunity to close the two leaders down. Their ‘race-heads’ got the better of them and they both upped the pace enough to drop me on my ageing but well developed Agni. As I fell back into the clutches of Zongshen’s number one rider Ho Chi Fung, he’d also started the race in a conservative manner and was slowly building his speed carefully managing his battery The phenomenal corner speed he was capable of meant he quickly reeled me in and passed me and although I managed to climb back into his slipstream a few times he pulled away with what appeared to be consummate ease. I realised at this stage that If I couldn’t catch him then a little battery conservation of my own might be in order and as I concentrated on my lines and corner speed I made a little time up but ultimately wasn’t going to be able to reel him in.

As I completed the first half of the last lap I noticed the original race leader in the distance slowly coming towards me? it seems that the early pace caused by the spirited racing had caused the ARC bike to use up its charge earlier than predicted and rather sickeningly for them I was able to catch and pass them in the last two corners netting Darvill Racing our first podium in MotoE this year!”

The trust and support we’ve received from Agni and MotoE for these last couple of races of the season has been outstanding and the series has been one of the most enjoyable we have raced in so far!! We’re really looking forward to getting involved in next season’s extended programme with more bikes confirmed and new and more exciting teams joining the mix….. Roll on 2015!

We are putting the finishing touches to our 2014 Season Review Photobook and will post a link to it shortly.
